Abstract
The intestinal knot syndrome is an interesting disease entity of the intestinal obstruction and a rare occurrence in which patients usually present with very serious and giving violent symptoms of the acute abdominal disorder. The syndrome consists of a twisting and knotting of terminal ileum around the sigmoid colon resulting from a mechenical or strangulating obstruction, and sigmoid volvulus which has in turn rotated an its own axis.
Anatomically, the intestinal knot syndrome has been observed a long and pendulous mesentery, approximation of proximal and distal portion of the sigmoid loop and redundent sigmoid loop. The diagnosis of the syndrome can usually be made only with the aid of roentgenologic exa¡©mination as the intestinal obstruction or sigmoid volvulus. Because of abrupt onset and vigorous severity of the disease, the syndrome carries a very poor prognosis. For the increasing survival we must prompt surgical intervention is carried out at once.
